COMPOSTABLE DISPOSABLE CUPS

When you buy a DasEis organic soft-serve ice cream, you can get it either in the tasty organic waffle cone or in a compostable disposable cup. Compostable?
Yes, to a limited degree. We make the first move and industry and politicians must follow. Normal ice cream cups are coated on the inside with PE (?) and therefore belong in the yellow recycling bins and/or burned with a high carbon dioxide output.

Our small cups with a compostable label are coated on the inside with a new material PLA (polylactic acid, made from corn starch) and can be industrially composted if such an urban infrastructure exists.

If this is not the case, at least these cups burn with less environmental damage, since during the production of PLA only as much CO2 is released, as the plants absorbed while growing.

The disadvantage: there will be no factory in Europe for the production of the PLA granulates until 2009. Until then we have to import from the USA, which unfortunately provides no guarantee of the absence of genetic modifications; as said, we are not content with the situation, but we have decided to make a start.
